We Three Kings
We Three Kings
Arranged by Mark Rogers for three euphoniums (bass and treble clef both included), two trumpets (Bb), trombone, tuba
We Three Kings, also known as We Three Kings of Orient Are or The Quest of the Magi, is a Christmas carol written by John Henry Hopkins Jr. in 1857. Hopkins served as the rector of Christ Episcopal Church in Williamsport, PA, and wrote the carol for a Christmas pageant in New York City. It was one of the first popular Christmas carols composed in America.
Mark's arrangement starts with some exciting 12/8 time that effectively contrasts euphonium trio with the remaining brass instruments. A Dixieland jazz version of the refrain is introduced about halfway through, followed by a Grave section that lets each euphonium play the melody. There is a return to the opening 12/8 feel that builds to an exciting finale!
The arrangement is suitable for high school or college-level players. Range is generally moderate, with First Euphonium ascending to G above the staff.
